Much like the 3D experience of a New York City stereomap, those at 1 World Trade Center have recreated a time lapse of lower Manhattan's skyline from 1500 to the present day that plays when traveling to the top of the building. This is the view from inside 1 World Trade Center's elevator that takes you up at 23 mph to the observation deck. The walls of the elevator are made up of nine 75 inch HD monitors to display the 3D simulation you see in the video. The video may be the best way to experience this feature as to do so in person and to access the observation deck costs the low price of $32 per person. Check out the full story in this New York Times article.

The Library of Congress was in the news (for a good reason!) a few weeks ago for acquiring a new large collection of stereographs to add to their already extensive collection. Many of these document rare views of African American slaves. plantation life in the antebellum South, and the Civil War. Read the full details here: http://wapo.st/1ByDuOb. It would be great to see someone add these to Flickr and animate them!
This section will provide updates regarding additions to the website and general links to stories or pages about stereographs, maps, and other historical digital projects of interest.
